Bwami figure, Léga, DR Congo. A wooden sculpture with a powerfully stylized silhouette, characterized by a disproportionately large, ovoid head, a face with elongated eyes beneath pronounced brow ridges, and a finely drawn mouth. The elongated arms frame the torso and meet at the hands in front of the abdomen, while the short legs, rendered in rounded, articulated forms, lend the piece a unique sculptural presence. Beautiful deep brown-black patina with reddish hues, featuring lustrous surfaces and signs of wear that give it an antique appearance. Belgian private collection, acquired in 1967. Height: 22 cm
