Luluwa Maternity Figure (Bena lulua), Democratic Republic of the Congo. A beautiful female sculpture carrying a child, characterized by a slender silhouette, a long, ringed neck, and a delicately modeled face with half-closed eyes. The elaborate hairstyle, topped by a curved crest, features a remarkable circular carved decoration on the back. The body is richly adorned with raised scarification marks and fine geometric incisions, combining concentric patterns, herringbone designs, and triangular compositions on the chest, back, and limbs. The exceptional richness of the decoration, the precision of the details, and the harmony of the proportions give this mother figure a strong sculptural presence.
