Mboko Bowl Carrier, Luba, DR Congo. An elegant seated female figure, with outstretched legs, holding a circular bowl resting on a pedestal. The expressive face, with eyes highlighted by light-colored material and a slightly parted mouth, is framed by a remarkable hairstyle featuring broad spiral curls. The vessel and its base are adorned with geometric herringbone friezes. The balance of the composition, the modeling of the limbs, and the deep brown-black patina with reddish hues lend this sculpture a beautiful sculptural presence. Signs of wear and use. Acquired at the BRUNEAF event, circa 2017 (no further information available). Height: 20.5 cm
