Mangbetu male sculpture, DR Congo. It has a slender silhouette, characterized by an expressive head with bulging eyes, hair styled backward, and a body with rigorously stylized proportions. A remarkable network of fine geometric incisions, composed of triangles and intersecting lines, runs across the torso, limbs, and back, emphasizing the figure’s architectural form. Dense wood with a deep, lustrous brown-black patina, displaying rich reddish-brown hues and localized wear. The balance of the forms and the delicacy of the decoration lend this work a particularly assertive sculptural presence. Height: 59 cm
