Dogon anthropomorphic altar, Mali. An imposing monoxyl sculpture featuring four slender figures arranged around a central axis and topped by a remarkable tiered geometric finial. The narrow faces with long, straight noses, the rigorously stylized bodies, and the bent legs combine to form a sculptural composition characterized by a strong sense of verticality. The rhythmic repetition of the figures and the balance of the volumes give this work a particularly striking visual presence. Wood with an antique matte gray-brown patina, showing pronounced erosion of the reliefs, light deposits, and cracks. The piece as a whole shows significant wear, consistent with its considerable age. Height: 64 cm
