Commemorative male figure from Bangwa, Cameroon. An imposing male sculpture with powerfully bent legs, holding a long-necked gourd—a symbol of prestige associated with Bangwa dignitaries. The expressive face with a slightly parted mouth, the tall conical headdress, and the vigorously modeled forms are in keeping with the tradition of lefem commemorative figures from the Fontem region. The surface features a remarkable thick, layered, and cracked earthy patina, revealing traces of red pigmentation. Signs of wear and missing sections. Height: 31.5 cm
