Luba Cup Bearer, DR Congo. An important bearer of the Mboko divination cup, notable for her imposing, tiered hairstyle with finely striated, backward-projecting strands—a characteristic feature of the Shankadi sculptural tradition. The face with half-closed eyes, the geometric scarifications on the torso, and the elegance of the kneeling posture attest to a fine mastery of form. Wood with a deep, dark brown patina, showing signs of ancient wear, particularly beneath the base. Recent damage to the base, with a fracture and loss of material. Height: 46 cm
