Chair with a female caryatid, Lupona Luba, Democratic Republic of the Congo. Carved from wood, it rests on a kneeling female figure whose raised arms support a circular tabletop. The finely drawn facial features, the wrists adorned with ringed bracelets, and the prominent abdomen marked with scarifications attest to a work of art that pays particular attention to detail. Beautiful antique brown-black patina, deeply nuanced and glossy in places. Provenance: former Jean Lecluse collection, Liège. Acquired in 1965. Height: 35 cm
