169 - Anthropomorphic statue from Iagalagana Mumuyé, Nigeria.

Anthropomorphic statue from Iagalagana Mumuyé, Nigeria. An imposing wooden sculpture featuring remarkable vertical architecture, characterized by the extreme elongation of the body, powerfully rounded shoulders, and long arms detached from the torso, creating vast open spaces. The small, ovoid head, topped by an appendage and framed by two large, curved lateral projections, features a simplified face with eyes composed of small metal inlays—a characteristic found in certain Mumuye sculptures. The work stands out for the vigor of its forms, the balance of its composition, and its deep, antique brown-black patina, with reddish hues and intensely lustrous surfaces. There is a longitudinal slit at the level of the pelvis. Height: 102 cm
