Luluwa Statue (Bena Lulua), Democratic Republic of the Congo. A remarkable carved wooden male statue with symbols of prestige, depicted standing, wearing a tall conical headdress and sporting a pointed beard. The figure holds two carved attributes and wears a loincloth as well as several accessories at the waist. The work is distinguished by the extraordinary precision of its incised decoration, particularly the geometric interlacing of the headdress, the checkered patterns on the garment, and the refined rendering of anatomical details. Beautiful honey-brown patina with deeper shades in the recesses. Formerly in a Belgian collection. Includes base. Height: 42 cm
