Important anthropomorphic fetish with a ritual cavity from Yaka, DR Congo. A carved wooden figure featuring an expressive head with large eyes framed by relief carvings, topped with a headdress featuring a radiating crest. The ovoid body, resting on powerful legs, is hollowed out with a deep vertical cavity likely intended to hold a ritual offering. A phallic-shaped bone pendant, suspended from a necklace of green beads, hangs in front of the opening. The variations in color on the torso suggest the former presence of a covering that has since disappeared. Beautiful, nuanced honey-brown patina, with signs of wear. Early 20th century. Height: 50 cm
