Kifwebe Mask, Songye, DR Congo. A remarkable miniature carved wooden mask with an elongated face crisscrossed by fine geometric striations, accented with black and whitish pigments. The narrow eyes, strongly projecting nose, and tubular mouth combine to form an expressive face of beautiful sculptural precision. It bears an antique patina from use, partially faded polychrome, and a significant amount of preserved raffia fiber adornment. A particularly interesting example due to its unusual proportions and the quality of its craftsmanship. First half of the 20th century. Height: 19 cm
