Djimini/Ligbi Mask, Ivory Coast. A carved wooden mask with a narrow, highly stylized face, topped by two imposing crescent-shaped horns. The horizontal eyes are outlined with a fine incised grid pattern, while the tapered nose, the geometric scarifications on the cheeks, and the long ringed earrings attest to particularly meticulous carving. Beautiful satin-black patina, with traces of kaolin and indigo pigments in the incisions. The interior shows signs of wear. Formerly in the collection of J. Lecluse, Liège.
