Lwalwa (Lwalu) mask of the Nkaki/Mfondo type, DR Congo. Carved from dense wood, featuring a narrow, elongated face, powerfully structured around a long, strongly protruding triangular nose, framed by two deep concave surfaces. The openwork rectangular eyes, highlighted by engraved motifs, and the small mouth with protruding lips accentuate the precision and balance of this particularly expressive composition. Beautiful antique reddish-brown patina with deep hues, featuring satin-like surfaces. T races of carving and handling on the reverse. Highly characteristic of the aesthetic of Lwalwa masks.
