Ngaady a Mwaash Kuba Bushoong Women’s Mask, Democratic Republic of the Congo. A very beautiful carved wooden mask depicting a woman’s face with elongated eyes and a serene expression, brought fully to life by a remarkable polychrome composition of red, black, and white. The forehead features a network of triangular geometric motifs, while the cheeks are crisscrossed by long vertical stripes suggesting tears (byoosh’dy), characteristic of Ngaady a Mwaash iconography. Beautiful antique patina, nuanced polychrome showing signs of wear and weathering, with the decorative elements remarkably well preserved. Height: 37 cm
