Ogoni mask, Nigeria, Niger Delta. A rare Elu mask with a bird’s beak and an articulated jaw, carved from wood, featuring a highly stylized face with large, openwork circular eyes, a protruding nose, and an impressive bird’s-beak-shaped mouth. The movable lower jaw, hinged on the side, reveals a row of fine, attached teeth, giving the mask a particularly striking expression.
