Yoruba Gèlèdè Mask, Nigeria. A very beautiful carved wooden mask featuring an expressive face, characterized by large, openwork eyes, triangular ears, and deep, diagonal scarifications on the cheeks. The imposing headdress, composed of broad, radiating strands of hair with fine striations, is topped by a feline with an open mouth, likely a leopard, a symbol of power in Yoruba iconography. Beautiful antique reddish-brown patina, with glossy surfaces in places, showing signs of age, traces of handling, and an irregular interior hollow. Late 19th – Early 20th century Height: 27.5 cm
