Bamana (Bamabara) mask, Mali. An interesting Suruku mask depicting a hyena. Carved from dense wood, it features a powerful, stylized face characterized by a domed forehead, large, erect ears, a strongly projecting nose, and a gaping mouth lined with finely incised triangular teeth. The vigor of the forms and the particularly striking expression give this sculpture a remarkable sculptural presence. Beautiful, deep, satiny, reddish-brown antique patina, featuring dark shades, scuffs, and wear on the reliefs. Height: 36 cm
