Beté/Senufo Mask? (probable attribution), Ivory Coast. A powerful wooden mask featuring a face with highly bulging eyes and a widely protruding mouth, revealing carefully individualized teeth. The imposing headdress, composed of large curved arches, echoes the openwork elements framing the lower part of the face and lends the piece as a whole a remarkable sculptural power. It has a beautiful, antique brown-black patina, nuanced with reddish tones and signs of wear on the protruding parts. The interior shows traces of carving and numerous peripheral perforations, evidence of a former system for attaching adornments. Height: 36 cm
