Okukwé dance mask, Galoa ethnic group, Gabon. A beautiful anthropomorphic mask carved from wood and painted in multiple colors, featuring an oval face with half-closed eyes, arched eyebrows, and a straight nose. The design is enlivened by a geometric pattern of black triangles, white pigments, and reddish-brown hues, showing a patina of use and signs of age. The mask retains a substantial amount of plant fibers forming a headdress and a frame around the face. The hollowed-out back shows traces of carving and old collector’s labels (J. Lecluse, Liège). Base included. Height: 34 cm
