Female Gu mask with zoomorphic superstructure, Gouro ethnic group. Ivory Coast. Carved from wood, it depicts a female face with delicately sculpted features, half-closed eyes, a slender nose, and a small, slightly parted mouth. The headdress is topped by a spectacular openwork animal figure with a long snout and widely flared ears, lending the entire piece a remarkable verticality. Beautiful antique brown-black patina, glossy and tinged with deep red, showing wear and abrasions on the reliefs. Hollowed-out reverse side retaining traces of traditional carving marks. Side perforations for mounting. Height: 50 cm
