Antique Karanga mask depicting a bird, Mossi ethnic group, Burkina Faso. An elegant carved wooden mask depicting a stylized bird’s head topped by a long neck and an imposing openwork superstructure featuring geometric motifs. The two tall, tapered points frame a finely carved central element, while the incised decorations emphasize the precision and balance of the composition. Beautiful antique reddish-brown patina with deep hues, showing wear on the reliefs and interesting surface variations. Compare with a Mossi Karanga mask of very similar composition, offered at Lempertz, Brussels, on April 1, 2004, lot 27. Base included Height: 76.5 cm
