Polychrome anthropomorphic mask from Adouma (Mvudi), Gabon. Carved from wood, with an elongated, streamlined face characterized by a high, domed forehead, narrow eye slits, an angular nose, and a small rectangular mouth. The composition is distinguished by an elegant checkerboard-patterned polychromy alternating reddish-brown surfaces with white pigments, lending the piece a striking graphic impact. Shows signs of wear; the polychromy is partially worn away, and the reverse side is deeply hollowed out, bearing numerous chisel marks. Provenance: Lecluse Collection, Liège. Height: 39.5 cm
