Zoomorphic mask from the Bamileke people, Cameroon, Grassfields. Long, tapered snout, powerful circular eyes in relief, tall, erect ears, and an open mouth revealing two rows of small teeth. The deeply hollowed-out back, which retains an old attachment point, likely indicates that it was worn on the top of the head, in accordance with a tradition documented in the masquerade ensembles of Cameroon’s Grassfields. Very fine sculptural quality and remarkable graphic presence. First half of the 20th century, probably around 1930–1950. Provenance: private collection, acquired in 1979. Height: 31.5 cm
