Luluwa Mask, Democratic Republic of the Congo. A rare small carved wooden mask with an ancient brown-gray patina, characterized by a powerfully stylized face with a broad, domed forehead punctuated by multiple perforations, surmounted by a remarkable three-part, serrated superstructure. Its small size and the ancient fastening system preserved on the reverse side suggest that it was likely attached to a piece of clothing or adornment rather than worn directly on the face. Includes base. Height: 16 cm
