Yoruba Gèlèdè mask with multiple faces, Nigeria, Abeokuta region, Egbado/Yewa area. Carved from dense wood with a beautiful dark reddish-brown patina, with a satin-like finish in places. A remarkable Gèlèdè mask featuring a large oval face against which two small anthropomorphic faces stand out in high relief, arranged on either side of a diamond-shaped opening; the finely striated hairstyles and the delicate modeling of the features contrast with the power of the overall composition. The deeply hollowed-out reverse side retains significant traces of carving and wear, as well as old collection labels (J. Lecluse, Liège). Height: 30 cm
