Bamana mask; Mali. Wood. A rare anthropomorphic mask topped by a face. A unique monoxyl composition featuring two superimposed human faces; the upper face, with its hieratic and refined features, is framed by a remarkable hairstyle consisting of two long, striated side braids. The powerful construction of the forms, the large rear cavity, and the deep brown-gray patina—marked by erosion and ancient signs of use—lend this work a particularly archaic presence. Height: 50 cm
