Important female figure from the Dogon ethnic group, Mali, 19th century Carved wood with an antique brown-gray patina. A large female figure with a remarkable architectural composition, characterized by a long, cylindrical neck, strongly protruding breasts, a prominent abdomen, and long arms extended away from the body. The elongation of the forms, the geometric rendering of the face, and the emphasis on fertility traits are all part of the great tradition of ancestral Dogon statuary. Beautiful antique patina and significant signs of erosion at the base. Provenance: French collection, formerly Michel Gaud Accompanied by a CIRAM carbon-14 dating report No. 1124-OA-1822J-2 dated January 13, 2025: the wood was dated, with 95.4% confidence, to 1687–1730 (25.7%) or 1806–1925 (69.7%), a result consistent with its presumed 19th-century attribution. Height: 65 cm
