FRANCE, Paris Region, second half of the 18th century Two silver (950) wine tasters with horizontal, serpent-shaped ring handles: - one with a slightly domed center engraved with a star-shaped rosette, surrounded by a radiating pattern of dotted flutes. Silversmith’s hallmark (incomplete): possibly that of Eustache-Charles BONNENFANT, who was admitted as a Master in 1739. Hallmarks: [A] from the Paris Generality and [eyelet] from Mantes-la-Jolie for 1768–1775, and the guild mark [B. tulip] from MANTES LA JOLIE for 1756–1774. Inscription below the rim: “J. Bte. Etienne” (added later). Weight: 75 g. – Diameter: 8.5 cm. - A small cup with a domed center and a decoration of half-spheres. Goldsmith’s hallmark (worn): N.C.? PARIS, Jurande hallmark [P 89] for 1789. Marked beneath the rim, added later, “I.B.H.” Weight: 51 g. – Diameter: 7 cm. = Scratches and a few chips.
