Philippe GELUCK The Painter Cat Acrylic on canvas. Signed and dated “2016.” Reproduced in the definitive edition of *L’Art et le chat* published in 2023 by Casterman. The original version of this work, in a smaller format (50 x 50 cm), was exhibited in 2016 in Paris at the Musée en Herbe as part of the exhibition “L’art et le Chat,” during which Philippe Geluck juxtaposed his work with that of great 20th-century artists (the album published by Casterman that same year served as the exhibition catalog). This humorous painting, in which Philippe Geluck plays with words, clearly references the surrealism of René Magritte: “I just painted the door,” declares the Cat, inviting viewers to enter… The paintbrushes in his hand suggest one thing, but the canvas on the easel and the slightly ajar door suggest another. 100 x 100 cm. With the artist’s certificate Philippe GELUCK
