Textile piece probably a Licia cape, featuring multicolored tie-dye designs created using patchwork. A complex composition forming circular and cross-shaped motifs arranged in a cross pattern, inscribed within diamonds and aligned diagonally. An interplay of interlocking patterns and colored reserves offers multiple levels of interpretation, within an overall balance that is both masterful and highly modern. Multicolored camelid yarns; a few small reinforcements and restorations; slight losses along the edges. Nazca-Wari, Peru, 300–700 CE. 138 × 180 cm Provenance: acquired from Throckmorton Fine Art gallery on February 8, 1999
