Miniature stupa Carved and polished rock crystal. Nepal, 18th–19th century H 7.7 cm Provenance, according to the information provided: former Éric Chazot collection, Paris. Resting on a circular base adorned with lotus petals, this small stupa features a rounded dome topped by a quadrangular element and a stepped spire, crowned with a finial. The rounded forms and architectural projections catch the light, revealing the crystal’s transparency and inclusions. As a miniature version of a Buddhist monument, the stupa serves as an object of devotion and symbolizes the Buddha’s enlightened mind. Here, the clarity of the crystal gives a tangible expression to this spiritual dimension. General Bibliography Jeff Watt, “Stupa (Chaitya): Main Page,” Himalayan Art Resources, 2005, updated 2017.
