Large trường đao-style saber Steel, iron, wood, and rattan; shows signs of wear and age. Vietnam, probably 19th century L: 101 cm. This large saber features a sharply flared blade, ending in a concave cutout and pierced near its tip. A small disc-shaped guard protects the long, rattan-wrapped hilt, allowing for a two-handed grip. Intended primarily for combat involving slashing strikes, trường đao swords are distinguished by the width of their blades and the balance of their proportions. Rarely seen at public auctions, this type is represented here by an example with a bold silhouette, in good overall condition. Bibliographic References V.
