Ancient Ana Deo Figure Wood, aged patina, signs of age, and localized erosion. Flores Island, Indonesia. H: 90 cm Provenance: Yves Créhalet Collection, Paris. This standing figure features a rounded torso, framed by arms that trace a wide arc. The slightly bent knees soften the posture, while the oval head and round eyes accentuate the figure’s expressive presence. The balance between the solid volumes of the body and the spaces created by the arms lends the piece a distinctive sculptural power. On Flores, this ancient figure, known as Ana Deo, represents a protective ancestor associated with homes and shrines.
