Ancestor with horseshoe-shaped forearms Wood, old shiny brown and red patina Hemba, Democratic Republic of Congo 26 x 5.5 cm Among the Hemba, these statuettes were associated with ancestor worship and lineage memory. They represented respected figures, guarantors of spiritual balance and family continuity. The stable posture, the arms brought back to the body with restraint and the serene expression of the face give this sculpture a calm, meditative presence, reinforced by the harmonious balance of the volumes.
