Ferri & Associés Auction, “The Worlds of Michel Vinaver,” Drouot, Paris, December 9, 2022, lot 178. With an ovoid head, broad shoulders, and a body reduced to a few essential forms, this figure retains only the structure of the human form. Among the Moba people, these sculptures, called tchitcheri, were commissioned by diviners and placed in shrines. They protected their owners and helped them convey their needs to the supreme being.
