Standing Male Figurine Hardwood, very old brown and reddish patina, glossy in places, signs of wear. Baoulé, Republic of Côte d’Ivoire. H: 30 cm The male figure, nude and standing, is planted firmly on massive, upward-sculpted feet, which here replace the solid pedestal typically found in Baoulé statuary. The composition, very minimalist, is centered on the arms hanging at the sides of the body and the hands resting on the abdomen in a nurturing gesture.
