Male statuette Hardwood, with a glossy brown and honey-colored patina; shows signs of use and age. Baoulé, Republic of Côte d’Ivoire. H: 33 cm Standing on a circular pedestal with tiered linear decoration, the male figure commands attention through the balance of his proportions and the quality of his carving. The face, with a beautiful, solemn expression, is framed by a small beard beneath the chin. Scattered scarifications enliven the body, whose rounded belly with a pronounced navel accentuates its fullness.
