14120 - African wooden figure with a beaded collar and pouch-like pendants

African wooden figure with a beaded collar and pouch-like pendants An expressive, fully three-dimensionally carved wooden figure with a disproportionately large head, a head shape that flares out at the sides, protruding eyes, and an open mouth with three-dimensionally rendered teeth. The slender body and long, splayed legs give the figure a striking silhouette. A multi-row beaded collar surrounds the neck. Small pouches, presumably made of leather, are attached to the neck and hips. Additional bundled components are attached to the back. The adornments suggest it may have been used as a protective figure, though a ritual function cannot be confirmed. - Origin: Africa, exact region unknown - Material: Wood, beads, presumably leather, and other organic components - Date: Uncertain - Condition: Cracks on the head and body; surface abrasions and missing sections, particularly at the crown. Attached components are partially damaged. Height: 53 cm
