Madonna and Child, patinated bronze figure on a marble pedestal, 20th century. A fully three-dimensional depiction of the standing Virgin Mary holding the infant Jesus in her arms. Cast metal, likely bronze, with a nuanced brown-gold and dark gray patina; the face, hair, hands, and folds of the robe are particularly emphasized in relief. On the back, in the lower section, there is an indistinct round foundry or manufacturer’s mark. Mounted on a square, dark gray stone base, likely marble. Stylistically, a modern, subtly abstract interpretation of a traditional image of the Virgin Mary, likely from the second half of the 20th century. Signs of age and wear; height 34.5 cm; manufacturer’s mark on the back, indistinct.
