Original autograph of Erwin Rommel (1891–1944), Field Marshal, Afrika Korps, Knight's Cross with Oak Leaves and Swords, historical militaria collage A historically interesting and representative collage commemorating Johannes Erwin Eugen Rommel (1891–1944), Field Marshal of the German Wehrmacht and commander of the German Afrika Korps during World War II. Erwin Rommel was one of the most famous German military commanders of World War II. He gained international fame particularly through his military operations in North Africa between 1941 and 1943, which earned him the nickname “Desert Fox.” He was the recipient of numerous military decorations, including the Order Pour le Mérite and the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves, Swords, and Diamonds. This elaborately designed collage combines a historical portrait of Rommel in a general’s uniform, a separate handwritten autograph clipping, an insignia in the shape of the oak leaves with swords for the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross, and two commemorative fabric ribbons related to the German Africa Corps. - Person: Johannes Erwin Eugen Rommel (1891–1944), German Field Marshal. - Autograph: Handwritten signature “Rommel” on a separate paper clipping, attributed to Erwin Rommel. - Portrait: Historical black-and-white photograph of Rommel in a general’s uniform with medals, decorations, and a marshal’s baton. - Medal Insignia: Oak Leaves with Swords for the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross, silver plated version with three-dimensional oak leaves and two crossed swords. - The design of the insignia corresponds to the historical higher class of the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross. - It is not possible to definitively attribute the insignia to an original contemporary version. It could not be conclusively determined whether it is a historical original or a later reproduction. - “Africa” textile ribbon: Sand-colored commemorative ribbon with white embroidery, palm tree motifs on the sides, and decorative border stripes. - “Afrika Korps” textile ribbon: Dark green textile ribbon with silver plated lettering and light-colored border stripes. - The contemporary origin of the two textile ribbons is not confirmed. They may be later reproductions or mementos. - There is no evidence that the two textile ribbons and the medal insignia belonged personally to Erwin Rommel. - Historical awards:** Rommel received the Order of Pour le Mérite in 1917, the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross in 1940, the Oak Leaves in 1941, and the Swords and Diamonds in 1942. - Supplementary biographical caption providing details on Rommel’s military career, his decorations, and his position as commander of the German Africa Corps. - The individual memorabilia items are decoratively arranged on a sand-colored and olive-green background with several mat cutouts. - Presented entirely behind glass in a reddish-brown wooden frame. - The authenticity of the signature has not been independently verified. A historically interesting compilation related to German military history during World War II, with particular reference to the North African campaign and the German Africa Corps. The handwritten autograph clipping attributed to Erwin Rommel forms the centerpiece of this collage. It is complemented by the historical portrait, the medal insignia in the form of an oak leaf with swords for the Knight’s Cross, and the two commemorative ribbons.
