Japanese ukiyo-e woodblock print, Utagawa Kunisada, 1786–1865, Edo period, circa 1833. Sheet from the series “Tōkaidō gojūsan tsugi no uchi” — “From the 53 Stations of the Tōkaidō,” here likely Arai no zu / “View of Arai.” The print depicts a harbor scene with a seated woman in a blue-patterned kimono in the foreground. In the background are boats, larger sailing ships, a coastal landscape, and mountains. The text cartouche in the upper left reads - “From the 53 Stations of the Tōkaidō.” The blue cartouche presumably reads / Arai no zu - “View of Arai.” Signed in the lower right: / Kōchōrō Kunisada ga—“drawn by Kōchōrō Kunisada”—along with red censorship and publisher’s seals. On the reverse, handwritten inscriptions read “Kōchōrō Kunisada ga ca. 1833” and “Tōkaidō gojūsan tsugi no uchi”; the publisher is likely Sanoya Kihei / Kiyū. Framed behind glass in a black frame with a dark mat. Condition typical of its age, with paper browning, stains, slight creases and signs of wear, partial color fading, and minor frame imperfections. Dimensions including frame: approx. 36 x 29.5 cm.
