Magnificent lidded vase with brass mountings, putto figures, and hand-painted landscape scenes, porcelain, 67.5 cm Magnificent, large-format porcelain lidded vase with an elaborate, stately design. The baluster-shaped body features a deep cobalt-blue background, rich gold decoration, and finely executed polychrome hand-painting. The front panels depict romantic river landscapes featuring architecture, castles, trees, and figures. The detailed landscape depictions are framed by cobalt-blue borders adorned with gold. One of the paintings is signed, though the signature is not clearly legible. Particularly noteworthy is the exceptionally elaborate sculptural figurative decoration. The lower body of the vase rests on a richly decorated base featuring fully sculpted horse figures and putti. The upper section features additional sculpted putti as well as decorative relief ornamentation. The two richly ornamented volute handles on either side are made of gilded brass and feature sculpted floral motifs and curving rocaille patterns. The elaborately decorated base is also fitted with a gilded brass mounting. The removable, richly decorated lid is crowned by a gilded, cone-shaped knob. The overall design is characterized by the artful combination of porcelain sculpture, elaborate landscape painting, cobalt blue, gold accents, and decorative brass mountings.
