Large porcelain ceremonial bowl with two female figures playing music, cobalt blue and gold, hand-painted, 20th century. Magnificent, large-format porcelain ceremonial bowl with elaborate figurative design, fine hand-painting, and opulent gold accents. A representative example of 20th-century decorative art in the Neoclassical style. The widely flared upper bowl is glazed in deep cobalt blue and features a large, oval medallion. The highly detailed, hand-painted depiction shows an idyllic, gallant social scene with several figures in a park-like landscape. The medallion is framed by ornate, gold-colored vine motifs. The central, vase-shaped shaft in light turquoise blue is adorned with a finely executed landscape painting featuring a river, architecture, and trees. The painting is signed in the lower section. On either side of the shaft stand two fully three-dimensional female figures in antique-style robes. Both are holding musical instruments—a lute and a lyre, respectively. The figures have finely detailed facial features and robes adorned with floral motifs in delicate pastel shades.
