Kisgyörgy, János (1909 Máramarossziget, Hungary – 2012 Kronberg) – “Mountains near Queenstown, New Zealand,” 1986, oil on canvas, signed “J. Kisgyörgy" and dated 1986, expansive mountain landscape with a view across rolling terrain and a valley toward a bluish, terraced mountain range in the background, approx. 30 x 40 cm, framed, overall dimensions 42 x 50 cm, provenance: Györgyi Kreutzer’s private collection -János Kisgyörgy devoted his long artistic career to figurative, realistic painting. After studying at the Royal Hungarian Academy of Fine Arts in Budapest, he became a sought-after portrait painter whose works are characterized by a wealth of detail, expressiveness, and a keen sense of the character and dignity of his subjects. In addition to portraits, the artist created numerous paintings of horses and landscapes, as well as private and public commissions.
