Sandstone block with Copper Age and medieval decoration. L 74.2 cm, W 26.4 cm. Red Rhenish sandstone. On the original front face, there is a Copper Age engraving in the shape of a spearhead, likely dating from the 3rd millennium BCE. The stone block appears to have been used in a building structure—possibly as late as Roman times or the Middle Ages—and was carved in relief on another side. Wavy lines and fish tails are still visible. At some point, the stone was Christianized with an incised cross. Chipped at the ends. Provenance: Formerly in the collection of J.R. & V.P., Netherlands; acquired at the Konz Coin Fair in the 1990s.
