197 - Modern gold chain with an antique cross pendant. Chain: modern; pendant: Byzantine, 4th–6th century AD. 5.24 g. Chain length: 43 cm. Pendant: 1.4 x 1.4 cm. Cross-shaped pendant, with identical designs on the front and back: a set, domed almandine in the center. Cross arms decorated with a braided band of gold wire; wire loops along the inner edge. Wearable! Gold! Intact; the decoration on the cross arms shows signs of wear. Provenance: Formerly from the A.K. collection, France, prior to 2018. In the EU art market since before 2000.
