112 - Eros with a kithara, riding a swan. Asia Minor, Hellenistic, ca. 325–250 BCE. Height 18.5 cm. Reddish clay with traces of white engobe. Mold-formed with a firing hole on the back. Eros, depicted as a kithara player, rides a swan that has turned its neck toward him. An oval base at the bottom. Includes a description and photo provided by the consignor! Parts of the reverse side have been restored; complete. Provenance: Formerly in the G.B. Collection, Switzerland, 1970–1984; acquired from Ariadne Galleries, New York, on October 3, 1983.
