40 - Campanian red-figure chous of the Three-Dot Group. Capua, ca. 340 B.C. H 14.7 cm, ø 10.7 cm. Form 3 jug with a cloverleaf rim and a low loop handle. Framed by a wavy band and angular friezes, a maenad rushing to the left is depicted with a tympanum and a perforated disc. As a distinctive feature, the underside—corresponding to the pictorial field—is partially covered with red paint and partially with a glossy glaze. Includes a beautiful informational leaflet from the previous owner! Intact. Provenance: Formerly in the collection of G. B., Switzerland; acquired on October 3, 1983, from Ariadne Galleries, New York.
