Sicilian red-figure belly lekythos in the tradition of the Lentini Group. 340–330 B.C. H 24.7 cm, ø 12.1 cm. On either side of a marble perirrhanterion resting on a fluted base stand, on the left, a young woman pouring water from a hydria into the basin, and on the right, a young man who has already extended his right hand into the basin to wash it. Rich use of white and yellow. Includes a copy of the catalog and the original certificate! Assembled from large fragments with no missing pieces. Provenance: Formerly in the collection of H. S., Northern Germany; acquired in 1987 from the Günter Puhze Gallery in Freiburg im Breisgau. Published in *Kunst der Antike*—Galerie Günter Puhze Catalog 7 (1987) p. 21, no. 208, with illustration. In a letter also included as a copy, the buyer—who had purchased the piece believing it to be Etruscan—correctly compares the belly-lythos to vases he had observed during a trip to Sicily in 1990.
